Dr Vasileios Panoulas has clinical expertise that encompasses both general and interventional cardiology.
He has a special interest in:
- complex coronary angioplasty
- transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI)
- percutaneous mechanical assist devices for treatment of acute cardiogenic shock
His clinical expertise is supported by professional qualifications, including:
- knowledge-based assessment (KBA) in cardiovascular medicine (from the British Cardiovascular Society)
- certification in adult transthoracic echocardiography (from the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging)
- computed tomography level two accreditation (from the British Society of Cardiovascular Imaging)
Dr Panoulas is also a proctor for TAVI and the Impella device.

Biography
Dr Vasileios Panoulas is a consultant interventional cardiologist who treats NHS and private patients at Royal Brompton and Harefield hospitals.
After graduating from the School of Medicine at the University of Ioannina, Greece, Dr Panoulas completed his PhD in the genetic regulation of hypertension in patients with rheumatoid arthritis at Russells Hall Hospital in Birmingham and the University of Ioannina.
From 2008-10, he underwent his core medical training at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital. This was followed by his cardiology core training at Hammersmith Hospital where he was appointed as a National Heart and Lung Institute academic clinical fellow (2010-13).
He then undertook an interventional cardiology fellowship at San Raffaele Scientific Institute, Milan, Italy for a year (2013-14). He completed his MSc in interventional cardiology from Universita Vita-Salute San Raffaele, Milan, Italy.
Subsequently, he returned to London and was a North West London interventional fellow for two years at Hammersmith Hospital (2014-16). At this time, Dr Panoulas was an NIHR clinical lecturer in cardiology at the National Heart and Lung Institute, Imperial College London. He continues his academic work there now as an honorary senior clinical lecturer.

- the association between fractional flow reserve, instantaneous wave-free ratio and stress echocardiography in patients with stable coronary artery disease
