Dr Sabina De Martino is a consultant gastroenterologist at St Thomas’ Hospital.

She regularly treats patients with conditions such as:

  • acid reflux disease
  • barrett’s oesophagus
  • biliary stones
  • coeliac disease
  • colorectal polyps
  • diarrhoea
  • gastrointestinal bleeding
  • gastritis
  • lynch syndrome
  • oesophageal and gastric cancer
  • pancreatic nodules
  • pancreatitis
  • peptic disease (ulcers)
  • serrated polyposis syndrome

She performs treatments such as:

  • colonoscopy
  • endoscopic removal of large colorectal polyps with EMR (endoscopic mucosal resection) and ESD (endoscopic submucosal dissection)
  • endoscopic ultrasound with fine needle aspirate and biopsy (FNA and FNB)
  • flexible sigmoidoscopy
  • gastroscopy

Biography

Dr Sabina De Martino is a consultant gastroenterologist based at St Thomas’ Hospital.

She graduated in medicine and completed her specialist training in gastroenterology at the University of Naples Federico II, Italy, in 1998. From 1999 to 2009 she was a qualified consultant gastroenterologist in Naples, Italy.

In 2009 she moved to London for a clinical fellowship in advanced endoscopy and endoscopic ultrasound at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. From 2014 to 2020 she was the endoscopy clinical lead and coordinated the Joint Advisory Group (JAG) accreditation of the unit, while being responsible for endoscopic training.


Research

Dr De Martino’s special interests include quality and safety improvement in gastrointestinal endoscopy.
