Biography
Dr Rakesh Anand is a consultant dermatologist and Mohs surgeon at the St John’s Institute of Dermatology and Guy’s Hospital. He specialises in the diagnosis and treatment of skin cancer, with particular expertise in Mohs micrographic surgery, while also offering comprehensive care across general and cosmetic dermatology. He leads the specialist skin cancer multidisciplinary team at Guy’s, one of the UK’s leading centres for skin cancer care.
Dr Anand trained at University College London Medical School and completed his specialist dermatology training at some of London’s most prestigious institutions, including the Royal London Hospital and the Royal Free. He was subsequently awarded a competitive fellowship in Mohs micrographic and laser surgery at the St John’s Institute of Dermatology.
Highly regarded by both patients and peers, Dr Anand is known for his meticulous approach and commitment to delivering outstanding care. He combines clinical precision with a warm, approachable manner, and is dedicated to helping patients achieve optimal skin health through holistic, evidence-based treatment. He remains actively involved in dermatological research and has received multiple awards in recognition of his contributions to the field.
Research
Dr Anand’s primary research focus is on skin cancer, with a particular interest in non-melanoma skin cancers. He established a dedicated clinic for patients with Gorlin Syndrome, a rare genetic condition that predisposes individuals to the development of multiple basal cell carcinomas.
He also leads the UK’s only joint dermatology–ophthalmology clinic, specialising in the diagnosis and management of periocular skin cancers and other complex conditions affecting the eyelid and surrounding skin.
Dr Anand is actively involved in ongoing research to improve outcomes in high-risk skin cancer patients and regularly contributes to peer-reviewed publications in the field.
