Gestation: From 6 to 11 weeks of pregnancy
An early ultrasound scan can offer you reassurance and is a chance to see your baby’s heart beating for the first time.
It will confirm the viability of an early pregnancy and establish an estimated due date (EDD).
This scan can check for the presence of twins and can exclude ectopic pregnancy.
Gestation: From 11 to 14 weeks of pregnancy
This pregnancy scan involves nuchal translucency (NT) and nasal bone screening, as well as a blood test to measure free ß-hCG and PAPP-A.
If you decide, results can then be discussed with our fetal medicine specialists who will determine if your baby has a higher risk of chromosomal or genetic gene variants.
They can recommend further screening for conditions such as Down’s Syndrome, Edwards’ Syndrome, Patau’s Syndrome.
Gestation: From 14 weeks of pregnancy
During this scan, measurements can be taken to assess baby’s growth.
This scan can offer reassurance if a midwife has difficulty hearing baby’s heartbeat with a stethoscope and offers another chance to see baby’s heartbeat and first movements.
Gestation: From 18 to 24 weeks of pregnancy
The anatomy of your baby is scanned in detail to gather information about the main body systems, such as the urinary tract, digestive tract, heart and major blood vessels and brain.
These measurements can help to monitor the wellbeing of your baby.
Gestation: From 18 weeks of pregnancy
A cervical assessment can assess the length of the uterine cervix which is useful in determining the risk of premature or early delivery.
Results and options can then be discussed with our fetal medicine specialists.
Gestation: From 24 weeks of pregnancy
An important scan to assess baby’s growth pattern, confirm the position of baby (including breech or cephalic), appearance and function of the placenta and the quantity of amniotic fluid surrounding baby.
Umbilical artery doppler measurement is used to asses the blood flow to baby.
This is another chance to confirm the sex of the baby if you wish to do this, as well as see baby’s heartbeat and movements.
